Local Attractions

Falls of the Ohio
201 W Riverside Drive
Clarksville, IN
The Falls include the fossil beds that are the reason the Louisville area developed.  There is an interpretive center, and you can walk out on the beds (unless they have opened the dam) and get a great view of the river environment.  It’s also a perfect spot to view McAlpine Locks and Dam.

Kentucky Derby Museum
704 Central Ave
A visit to the Derby Museum never disappoints.  Even though the track will not be in meet during GeoFrontiers, it’s fun to at least see Churchill Downs.  The museum has lots of great historical items, including jockeys’ silks, Derby hats, and other interesting things.  In addition, there is a great video that walks through the Derby history.

Muhammad Ali Center
144 N 6th St
A super interesting visual space that includes a museum with interactive displays and artifacts from the great boxer’s life.

Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory
800 West Main St
Take a tour of how bats are made and get your own mini bat with your name on it!

Big Four Bridge
1101 River Road
This popular feature is within walking distance of the Omni.  The 100+ year-old railroad bridge was transformed into a pedestrian bridge about 10 years ago.  Offering great views of the Ohio River and surroundings, you can walk across to Jeffersonville, Indiana, and buy some candy at Schimpff’s (347 Spring St, Jeffersonville, IN), the oldest family-operated candy store in the state of Indiana.

Evan Williams Bourbon Experience
528 W Main St
A 1-hour historical tour finishing with a tasting.  Highly recommend.

Whiskey Row
The Block Just East of the Second Street Bridge on Main St
The largest collection of cast iron storefronts in the US. Also a large collection of great bars and restaurants.

Cherokee and Seneca Parks
Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same man who designed Central Park in New York, these parks include over 700 acres of recreational facilities and beautiful walking areas.

Restaurants

Barn 8
10500 US HWY 42
Goshen, KY

If you have time, take a trip out to Goshen where you’ll find incredible food served inside an actual horse barn.  The drive from downtown takes about 30 minutes and ventures into the edge of horse country. (You’ll need a reservation).
